Turkey Meadows™

A backyard Field of Dreams for golfers who want to practice, relax, and enjoy the outdoors — one hole, nine holes, or eighteen holes at a time.

Turkey Meadows was built for the golfer who wants the game closer. Closer to home. Closer to daily life. Closer to that simple feeling of stepping outside, taking a breath, picking a target, and making a swing without turning practice into a whole production.

The course turns an ordinary backyard into a private foam-golf retreat: short strategic holes, a real scorecard, a driveway “water” hazard, a chipping grove, music over the opening holes, and a members-only deck where the round can begin or end with a little comfort.

Play one hole when you only have five minutes. Play nine when you want a reset. Play eighteen when the day deserves it. The point is not to chase perfection. The point is to make golf easy to return to, easy to enjoy, and easy to practice whenever inspiration shows up.

About the Course

Turkey Meadows™ is a private backyard foam golf course created by Founder and Head Greenskeeper Peter DeCaro. The course officially opens this season in Sparta, New Jersey and has been shaped into a beginner-friendly short course built around rhythm, touch, scoring, and repeatable practice.

The routing features short strategic holes ranging from 18 to 35 meters, designed around a two-club format using only a pitching wedge and 9 iron. The layout encourages players to focus on feel and distance control rather than power.

Players encounter optional routes, a driveway “water” hazard, a dedicated chipping grove, the Meadow Club District, and future real-ball training stations that blend backyard recreation with purposeful skill development.

Meet the Head Greenskeeper

Peter DeCaro serves as Founder, Course Designer, Head Greenskeeper, Director of Operations, and unofficial Commissioner of Backyard Golf. What began as a desire to practice more often at home became a full backyard golf concept: a place where a player can improve, relax, and enjoy the game without needing to leave the property.

As Head Greenskeeper, Peter oversees the routing, target placement, mowing patterns, hazard rules, member experience, practice stations, refreshment standards, and future expansion of the course. Every hole was designed with a purpose. Every target creates a different kind of shot. Every feature is there to make golf easier to start, easier to repeat, and more enjoyable to play.

Special Course Features

What Makes Turkey Meadows Different

The Two Club Course™

The official setup is simple: pitching wedge and 9 iron. That keeps the focus on contact, feel, distance control, and scoring instead of overthinking the bag.

The Meadow Club District™

The private deck and lounge area overlooks Holes 1 and 2, featuring a members-only hot tub, refreshments, nonalcoholic beer, and a professional outdoor sound system.

Professional Sound System

The sound system was a professional job. A paid engineer designed and installed it to create reliable outdoor coverage for the opening holes and deck area.

Turkey Lake Hazard

Hole 7 turns the driveway into a signature “water” hazard. If the foam ball finishes on the driveway, it is a one-stroke penalty and a drop at the nearest grass point.

Chipping Grove™

Holes 5 and 6 lead naturally into a real-ball chipping zone where nets can be spaced out for controlled short-game bonus challenges.

Net Bay Coming Soon

Hole 2 is planned as the future real-ball driving net area, adding 7 iron, 5 hybrid, and driver practice into the Turkey Meadows training routine.

Cup Rule: a hole is considered completed when the foam ball finishes within one club length of the flag. Within two club lengths is the gimme zone. Outside two club lengths requires another shot. Hole 7 driveway “water” hazard adds one penalty stroke with a drop at the nearest grass point.

Practice Routine

Turkey Meadows works best as the home base, not the only practice environment. The course keeps your hands active, your rhythm improving, and your short-game confidence growing between real range sessions.

FrequencySessionFocus
2–3x per weekTurkey Meadows 9-Hole Foam RoundPW + 9 iron rhythm, scoring, touch, start line, distance feel.
1x per weekChipping Grove BonusReal-ball chips into nets spaced about 20+ feet apart. Focus on clean contact and landing control.
Every 2 weeksDriving Range SessionStructured real-ball practice with 7 iron, 5 hybrid, and driver.
Range Block 17 IronBuild balanced contact. Start with half swings, then progress to smooth full swings.
Range Block 25 HybridPractice sweeping contact and controlled launch. Focus on tempo, not distance.
Range Block 3DriverFinish with controlled tee shots. Goal is playable contact and balance, not maximum speed.

Recommended flow: use Turkey Meadows during the week for scoring and feel, then use the driving range every two weeks to validate contact with longer clubs. The backyard builds the habit. The range confirms the swing.
